Les Grimshaw was born in Oxford in the fifties and moved to Plymouth in his early childhood. Les worked at Plymouth College of Art and Design for 27 years starting as a technician with the Jewellery Department, teaching students to OND and HND level in jewellery, through to being the Head of the Craft Jewellery Department.
Throughout his working life, Les has maintained a balance between developing his own creative style and sharing technical and practical skills with students who are now worthy of note in the jewellery field in their own right. In the last few years Les has decided to focus solely on developing his own designs and is now a full time self employed jeweller. Represented in galleries across the country, from the Isles of Scilly to Edinburgh.
Les specialises in contemporary jewellery and creates designs using recycled 9ct gold, and sterling silver, often incorporating ethically sourced diamonds into his work. Les has fast developed a reputation throughout Cornwall and Devon as a jeweller with creative integrity, and over the years has become renowned for his skilled craftmanship.
As a jeweller, Les has refined and developed his technique of fusing metals and creating textures and designs that combine the richness of gold and silver. A combination of reticulation and fusing methods contribute to Les' modern contemporary collection of unique rings.
