JS2 Cormorant on rock

Medium: Built up from cut and torn strips of a coarse ‘crank’ clay body, with coloured slips and oxide, fired to 1100º C

Dimensions: H 42cm

"Creating the rocks and cliffs from the strips of clay is an intensely absorbing process, since each structure is developed uniquely at the time and is not preplanned. The cormorants are hand formed and intentionally small so as to create a sense of scale. I love the way cormorants find the highest spot and stand proudly looking out to sea, often silhouetted against the light" Jane Silk
